West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee did not meet Anubrata Mondal during her visit to Bolpur on Tuesday. Mamata, who held an administrative meeting in Bolpur to review the flood situation in Birbhum, left for Kolkata without visiting Anubrata, a senior TMC leader recently released from Tihar Jail after being arrested in a cow smuggling case.
Anubrata Mondal, fondly known as "Sneher Kestor," had expressed his desire to meet Mamata if she was in good health. Speaking earlier in the day, he had said, “Mamata Banerjee is coming to Birbhum. I am for Didi, I will always be.” He further stated, “I love Didi. Didi loves me,” showing his unwavering loyalty to the Chief Minister.
Despite the speculations that Mamata might meet Anubrata either during or after the administrative meeting, the two did not meet. The timing of her visit coincided with Anubrata’s return to his home in Bolpur’s Nichupatti after nearly two years. He was released from jail on Monday night and returned to Birbhum on Tuesday morning, visibly thinner and dealing with leg and waist pain.
In the aftermath of Anubrata’s arrest in August 2022, Mamata had previously expressed support for him, stating that she would bring him back with the honor of a hero. However, this time around, the much-anticipated reunion did not take place.
